Haven’t we all had friends like this? Despite the warnings of your real friends, you think they’re the best most exciting people and in the end they strap to you a rocket and laugh as you fly off into the ionosphere.
Yeah, me neither.
Here are the last 3 comics! Woo!
Wondermark – David Malki’s unique and hilarious comic. At first glance, it appears to be cut-and-pasted Victorian clip art, but Malki does some intricate photoshop work to get his characters and staging just right. Here’s another artists who’s time-lapse videos are worth watching.
We The Robots – Another comic that’s completed and retired, but a great story. A must for anyone who’s ever done time in a cubicle. Start from the beginning.
xkcd – if you identify as a nerd in any way or if anyone has ever called you a nerd. You should read this comic. Sometimes heavy on the math, it never fails to bring the laughs.
Sweet! That’s all of the original 27. On Monday I’ll wrap up with the few comics I’ve added to my list since I started this series.
Rounding third base now. Six (ish) more to go. Here are the next three:
Thinkin’ Lincoln – Miles Grover’s other strip. Also on Hiatus. This one’s about disembodied heads of famous dead people interacting in extremely immature ways. Yes. It is as awesome as it sounds.
Toothpaste for Dinner – More Comics from Drew of Superpoop/Crud Bump/Sharing Machine fame. These are drawn in a delightful stroke-victim style. They’re also very funny.
Truck Bearing Kibble – A beautifully drawn comic. Usually low humor (my fave!). There hasn’t been a new one in a while, but there’s plenty in the archives to read.
No, not that Seven of Nine. More comics most righteous, man!
Scary Go Round – The completed comic series by the lovely John Allison. SGR covers the adventures of some stylish twenty-somethings in the English town of Tackleford. Tends towards the supernatural. Tons of British humor (the best kind, really). The archives page is a great way to quickly see John’s art evolve to his current tight and expressive style.
Why is this completed comic still in my Google Reader? Well, up until last week or so I was getting John’s new comic, Bad Machinery through his scarygoround.com feed. That feed died last week, so now they’re separate. Plus this is a really great comic and you should read it sheesh stop with the 20 questions! We’ll talk more about Bad Machinery in the 10th installment (10 of 9? yeahp).
Superpoop – Awesome photo-comics by Drew of Sharing Machine. Drew and Natalie Dee do some very funny things on the internet. Go check them out.
Theater Hopper – Snarky and self-deprecating comic about movies and movie-fan culture. Tom is constantly improving his style. Also, my main source for movie news these days.
Woo! Three more super-kick-ass comics!
PvP – Another of the great ones. Scott Kurtz has been going strong since 1998. Like Penny Arcade’s Mike Krahulik, Scott’s technical abilities have come a long way over the last 12 years. His skills are legendary. I highly recommend watching the occasional live stream or time-lapse video of him drawing the comic (or those of any comic you admire). Free lessons in awesome.
Questionable Content – Hard to say what this one is exactly about. It’s loosely centered around a group of friends and a coffee shop (great, now I have the Friends theme song stuck in my head). But it also includes horny anthropomorphic computers and a very loud and very vulgar bird who fills in when Jeph is away. Like other long-running comics, the style has really flourished. I guess it helps to draw every day. Jeph has really kicked it up a notch in the last six months or so.
Rob and Elliot – An infrequent comic about two friends and their zany adventures. It’s a solid read. Hard to describe, but consistently funny.
That’s it for now. See you on Monday. I’m off to shovel some snow. Viva el Niño!
Three more super-sweet comics for you to read now!
LOLBots – A mini-comic spin-off of Diesel Sweeties featuring all of the non-human characters from DS. A little more light-hearted and less frequent than Diesel Sweeties. If you’re a fan of R. Stevens, you will love. The beginning.
Ninjerktsu – Occasional comics by Willis Carrier, a storyboard artist at Dreamworks Animation. Usually featuring a Ninja who is a jerk, hence the name. Great sketchy, storyboardy style and sharp humor. First Post!
Penny-Arcade – The legendary webcomic by Mike Krahulik and Jerry Holkins, also known as their in-comic doppelgangers, Gabe and Tycho. These guys defined webcomic. They’ve been doing it since 1998. That’s insane. Now they’ve got a whole company built around the comic and merch. They have their own convention and run a charity called Child’s Play. The comic is usually about games, but it’s approachable for non-gamers too. This is the first webcomic I started reading regularly. Highly recommended. Here’s the first one (if you have tons of free time).
